Chemo Brain: Fact or Fiction?

January 22, 2020 by Mabih 1 Comment

Hey guys, This next post is a really sensitive one because it is about the brain. Our brain controls the rest of our body (sorry guys, I know some of you may think it's the heart, but it is truly the brain.) Without our brain, a lot of other bodily functions especially those involving mental processes, the nervous system, memory, and learning are affected. When your brain … [Read more...] about Chemo Brain: Fact or Fiction?

January 16, 2020 by Mabih Leave a Comment

Have you ever heard that saying, "mind over matter"? I have! And for the longest time, I didn't really fully understand it. I mean, I did. But the full comprehension of it truly happens when you are able to actually apply it. Shit happens sometimes. I'm sorry, stuff happens sometimes. That's just life. Things we don't want to happen to us might happen sometimes. And at several … [Read more...] about Mind over Matter

Sweet Mother

January 1, 2020 by Mabih 29 Comments

In Cameroon, there is a popular artist and musician who sings a song as an ode to all mothers out there for everything that they do for their children and all the sacrifices they make. The one thing he says throughout the song, and here I loosely translate: " Sweet mother, I will never forget you for how much you suffered for me." He sings it in pidgin-English which is not a … [Read more...] about Sweet Mother

Uncle Lebong

January 1, 2020 by Mabih 8 Comments

He was my mom's cousin. Do you know that saying, blood will make people family, but life will make them friends? That was the case with my Uncle and I. His name was Uncle Lebong. He had several titles to many other people and to many of his colleagues and peers. But to me, he was just Uncle Lebong, my amazing uncle. And we were similar in some ways too! For one, he was … [Read more...] about Uncle Lebong

Hello chemo, goodbye hair

January 1, 2020 by Mabih 32 Comments

Remember how I told you the hair loss accelerated in a short amount of time? Well, I went to bed one morning, and when I got up to go to my appointment, there was hair all over my pillow. Not only that, my head looked like rodents had played in it... there were patches everywhere. When I walked into his office, the doctor had this look on his face like, "I told you … [Read more...] about Hello chemo, goodbye hair

Hair We Go Again!

January 1, 2020 by Mabih 14 Comments

No, that wasn't a typo. You read right. I said hair we go again, not here we go again. And that's mostly because this post is about my hair or my lack of it thereof. The again is because the last time my hair was like this, I was seventeen. Now I'm thirty-six! It's a long post too, so sit tight. Do you know that saying it's just hair? Well, it truly is, and it will grow … [Read more...] about Hair We Go Again!

What’s in a Tumor?

December 31, 2019 by Mabih 1 Comment

Have you ever wondered what's in a tumor? Well, I found two videos that could really help explain that. The first one is from a reputable resource, The National Breast Cancer Foundation. See below. The second one is from D-News with Julia Wilde where she breaks down tumors in "plain English" as I like to say. Please feel free to click and take a look. Well, now that … [Read more...] about What’s in a Tumor?
