While we were all excited to be together, we were all extremely hungry. It was late, and the kids wanted some food. And quite honestly, so did I. Besides, I don’t really like plane food because the motion in flight gives me nausea, so there’s that. Before leaving, we freshened up, took some pictures by the pool and then decided what we wanted to have for dinner.
We left our belongings in our suite and took a walk to the market center. The cold breeze from the coastal water hit our faces.
Santorini is one of the islands in Greece that has a lot to offer depending on what side of the island you are on. The market center on the side where our resort was located, had many local vendors, an assortment of restaurants, a Greek museum and lots of other local activities. But tonight, we were on a mission, and that mission was FOOD!
Souvlaki… Have you ever had it? I mean, that stuff is yummy in your tummy, finger-licking good. While there were lots of restaurants around, including Thai, Chinese and even Italian, we were vacationing in Greece and we wanted to immerse ourselves in the Greek experience and culture. Souvlaki is this dish made of meat (lamb, chicken or pork) seasoned with locally grown herbs and spices that are grilled over an open fire, doused in olive oil, and then placed in pita bread along with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, onions and whatever condiments and sauces of choice you’d prefer. We ordered a few, a side of fries and some tea for the cold weather.
We saw a beautiful mural on a wall that said “Los Tres Amigos.” We loved it a lot so we took pictures with it. Even the kids got in on the action. Back in our resort, we decided to have dinner and chill. Netflix and chill, that is. We got comfy in our pj’s, poured ourselves some alcohol and relaxed. I’m not sure what my friend was toasting to, but I was ready to drink already and dig into my dinner!
We scanned through Netflix and settled on watching Annie, a movie about a cute little ginger girl with a ton of spirit who lived in an orphanage. Victoria and I watched it a lot when we were younger, and it brought lots of fond memories of our childhood.
We took things easy the next day. We explored our resort and took some fun pictures. This day was laid back.
We relaxed by the pool, swam a little bit, ordered milkshakes and enjoyed the ocean views and the sunny weather.
Then we watched more movies on Netflix with the kids, and later they even had a dance-off in our suite. Then it was bedtime, and we cozied up to the warmth of our bodies sprawled across the sofas and beds.
I’m sure I won’t soon forget how warm the sun felt against my skin, how blue those skies were, how green the water was, and how delicious my lobster tasted. But for now, I’m calling it quits. For those of you who are eager to know what happens next, you sure can.
